Trump says hopes to meet N.Korea's Kim in Jan or Feb

South Korea to send trains to North Korea in joint survey to connect railways separated since Korean War

President Donald Trump and South Korean President Moon Jae-in briefly met at the G20 summit in Argentina on Friday, where Trump reaffirmed his intention to hold a second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The president tells reporters that there are three sites under consideration, but he's not identifying them.

"We're getting along very well. We have a good relationship", Trump said of Kim, according to the report.

The two sides had reportedly been engaged in talks on the leaders' second meeting after the first, unprecedented one in Singapore in June. Articles appear on euronews.com for a limited time. The postponement stirred concerns that nuclear talks between the US and North Korea had again bogged down, as Kim's regime seeks sanctions relief before taking key disarmament steps.

Although more than 32,000 North Koreans have defected to South Korea, most have done so through China, eventually making their way to a South Korean embassy in another country.

South Korea will send trains across the border to the North for the first time in a decade, after recent sanction exemptions paved the way to begin work to connect railways separated since the Korean War.

South Korean authorities plan to question the defector over the details of his escape.

They agreed on the need for "maintaining vigorous enforcement of existing sanctions to ensure the DPRK understands that denuclearization is the only path", Sanders said, using the North's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. He also said his administration is ready to lift the sanctions on North Korea, but asserted that Pyongyang has to be "responsive" to Washington.

In his talks with Trump at the G-20 in Argentina, Moon earned some support for the Seoul summit from the USA leader - perhaps in a bid to entice Kim to make good on his pledge.

Negotiations between the USA and North Korea on ending its nuclear program have appeared to stall in the months since Trump and Kim held a historic summit in Singapore in June.

Trump Says He May Eliminate Electric Car Subsidies for GM
In 2009, for instance, GM announced that it meant to close a huge assembly plant in Orion Township, Michigan, north of Detroit. GM is ending production of six vehicles, including the Volt, as it cuts more than 6,500 factory jobs.

But differences have emerged between Washington and Seoul on how to proceed with Kim, as the dovish Moon has long favored engagement with the North.

It comes as the North and South Korea have pushed to implement a wide-ranging military agreement reached in September to reduce tensions across their border.

They have also begun work to reconnect a train line and fix another rail link across the border.

North Korean and South Korean soldiers are pictured during an operation to reconnect a road across the Military Demarcation Line inside the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) separating the two Koreas (Novemeber 22, 2018).

Before the division of the Korean peninsula in 1948, there were two railway lines linking the North to the South - one in the west and the other in the east.
