Klay Thompson Sets New NBA Record with 14 Three-Pointers

With his 13th three-pointer of the night, Klay Thompson tied the record his Golden State Warriors teammate Steph Curry set in November 2016 for most treys in a single game. Phoenix scored 107 points in the first half of a 173-143 victory over Denver in 1990. And if you follow basketball at all (or really even if you don't), you know those numbers are just bonkers. Or something like that.

"I've always said I want to continue to try to improve my shooting and get more efficient", Curry said. Through the Warriors first seven games, the 28-year-old was averaging 15.1 points per game on 39.6 percent shooting from the field and 13.9 percent shooting from 3-point range, hitting just five of his 36 long-range attempts. Jimmy Butler had just four points on 2-of-11 shooting for Minnesota, which was booed off the court at halftime after its poor play over the first 24 minutes.

"I said we're going to learn a lot about ourselves with how we come out of the locker room", coach Fred Hoiberg said.

Unsurprisingly, Thompson's 52-point haul led the scoring with Curry adding 23 points and laying on five assists.

Curry added 29 points and six 3-pointers, giving him at least five in every game this season.

Derrick Rose favored from absences to starting point guard Jeff Teague and reserve Tyus Jones, but even more so from Jimmy Butler, as the Minnesota Timberwolves needed a player to step up against a risky Utah Jazz team that took this game to the wire. Quinn Cook also had 14 points off the bench.

Elsewhere on Monday, the eagerly anticipated match-up between the league's last two unbeaten teams, the Eastern Conference-leading Toronto and Milwaukee, saw the Bucks run out winners by 124-109.

The Raptors meanwhile were missing Kawhi Leonard, opting to rest the star forward for the contest.

In overtime, Justin Holiday's three-pointer gave the Bulls a one-point lead, but Millsap's tip-in off a miss by Nikola Jokic dropped the Bulls to 2-6.

The Hornets had eight players score in double figures.

The 1971-72 Bucks, led by Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson, started 7-0.
