India will not attend Saarc in Pakistan: Indian Foreign Minister Swaraj

The reference to neither India nor Pakistan being in a position to "win" a nuclear war also raised eyebrows.

India had pulled out of the 19th SAARC summit that was to be held in Islamabad after the deadly terrorist attack on an Indian Army camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir in September that year.

"If we want to do what we want to do, which is concentrate on fixing poverty, institutions, we need peace in the region".

"This corridor will be a historical landmark between India and Pakistan and will also boost tourism as more pilgrims would visit the holy shrine throughout the year between two countries", said an Indian press release.

The fact that India and Pakistan have agreed to open the Kartarpur corridor shows that despite the typical mood of confrontation between the countries, reconciliation is possible. "There were probably 10,000 pictures taken of and with me (in Pakistan), I don't know who Gopal Chawla is", Sidhu told news agency ANI after returning to India.

NASA's Insight Mission: When will it land and why should we care?
The suite of geophysical instruments on InSight sounds like a doctor's bag, giving Mars its first "checkup" since it formed. The process mirrors selecting a landing site, and both endeavors have been led by the same JPL scientist, Matthew Golombek.

Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had said India-Pakistan bilateral dialogue and the Kartarpur corridor were "two different things".

When asked by a reporter about Sidhu's friendship with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, the SAD leader said, "Yes I think he (Imran Khan) offered him (Sidhu) to fight election from Pakistan".

"I am happy when something is grounded in positive hope. If France and Germany can leave their bloody past behind why can't India and Pakistan break the shackles of the past". Given the turbulent nature of bilateral relations and animosity between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, Khan correctly understood that a rapprochement between the two inimical nations over even a religious, emotive issue such as visa-free corridor for Sikhism's most sacred site could well generate global headlines and may be interpreted as a sign of thaw in bilateral ties.

The event began with the airing of a film about the pilgrimage of members of the Sikh community to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib.

Prime Minister Khan, who also appreciated the joy on the faces around him.

Attack takes place at Chinese
On Friday, armed insurgents attacked the Chinese consulate in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi on the Arabian Sea coast. The spokesman for the Balochistan Liberation Army, Geand Baloch, told Reuters: "There were three suicide attackers".

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the corridor to Kartarpur Sahib, Khan raised the Kashmir issue saying that "two capable leaderships" to resolve it.

Thousands of Sikh devotees from India visit Pakistan every year to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

As part of the Indian delegation that arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday to attend the ceremony, Navjot Singh Sidhu, former Indian cricket player turned minister, was greeted by Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar at Governor House Lahore. Among the tall claims made were efforts made to normalise relations with India only for a rather cold reciprocation from across the border.

India last week gave the go-ahead to Pakistan's proposal to build Kartarpur corridor to facilitate Sikh pilgrims wishing to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal District near the Indian border.

On Monday, Indian Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone for the construction of the corridor in India.

Trump's ban on giving asylum to illegal migrants temporarily blocked by judge
A federal judge has barred the Trump administration from refusing asylum to immigrants who cross the southern border illegally. District Court in San Francisco issued a temporary nationwide restraining order barring enforcement of the policy.

Recalling Khan's meeting with Modi in 2015, Qureshi said that the then Pakistani leader of opposition had told the Indian prime minister "that there will always be spoilers, there will always be incidents to block the process".
