Met Eireann issues status yellow warning with 'wet and very windy' weather expected

The charts reveal a deep low-pressure system over Ireland on Tuesday and Wednesday next with another intense storm front appearing to follow on across the Atlantic from North America.

The wind warning was issued by Met Éireann at 10am for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Kerry, Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Cork and Waterford.

The Met Office has issued a number of weather warnings for the unsettled conditions that impact large parts of the country.

Storm Callum is now swirling off the southwest coast and will deepen rapidly over the course of the next 12 hours, according to Midland weather expert Cathal Nolan.

The sheriff's office says Wakulla County shelters were rated safe only for hurricanes below that threshold. The National Hurricane Center said that Michael's sustained winds have increased to nearly 125mph.

South Wales will get up to a month's worth of rain on Friday and Saturday, and double that in high and exposed locations.

"The strongest winds associated with this event will occur during the night-time hours and Friday morning rush-hour commute".

Natural Resources Wales' (NRW) have said they are sending out their emergency response teams to prepare for the storm, checking that flood defences are in good working order, clearing gulleys and ditches, and installing temporary defences. "There could be localised flooding issues".

South Wales is bracing itself for a two-day deluge that's expected to cause flash floods and travel chaos.

"We would urge drivers to take care in wet conditions".

The council has distributed sandbags to protect homes at risk of flooding. On Saturday the rain could become even heavier.
