UK's May tells party to drop dream of a 'perfect' Brexit

Theresa May to appear at Conservative Party’s annual meeting six months before Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday turned to pop group ABBA's hit ' Dancing Queen' to deliver an upbeat Brexit message at the close of the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham.

May also launched stinging attacks on the Opposition Labour Party, which she dubbed the "Jeremy Corbyn party", as she issued a strong call for Conservative unity on the final day of her party's conference in Birmingham.

After an awkward dance episode during her visit to Kenya in August had made the wrong kind of headlines, May chose to dance up to the podium to the beats of one of the Swedish band's most enduring songs in an attempt to set a lighter tone to her much-anticipated speech.

But she also stated that "Britain isn't afraid to leave with no deal if we have to", and ruled out any possible second referendum on whether to leave the union or not.

Taking a swipe at Johnson, May said she was taking decisions on Brexit in the "national interest", pressing her argument that her former foreign secretary's alternative Brexit proposals would tear the United Kingdom apart.

European Union diplomats and negotiating officials stress they have not yet seen the new British plan, but warned against recasting what was already discussed after Britain's Brexit minister Dominic Raab told his party's conference: "We said we would need to retain a UK-wide customs backstop". I think we would be foolish to get drawn into distractions.

Sox finish off historic season with rout of Yankees
Sale typically has great command of all of his other pitches, including his devastating slider, as the Red Sox skipper noted. The night before, Judge walloped a pitch from Boston's Bobby Poyner to tie the record and turn the inevitable into reality.

She also tried to return to the message she gave when she was appointed prime minister in 2016, promising to help those who feel "left behind" and pledging to end her government's austerity push after almost a decade of spending cuts.

Her own future remains full of uncertainty.

The EU has rejected her proposed Brexit deal and demanded new ideas from Britain.

Just before May's own speech on Wednesday, Conservative party MP James Duddridge, a key Johnson ally, announced that he had submitted a letter to the party's backbench 1922 Committee calling for a party leadership contest. Forty-eight lawmakers would need to write such letters to trigger a vote of confidence in the leader.

Her spokesman declined to comment on Duddridge's move.

But in that speech, Johnson seemed to pull his punches, backing May for now while making a rallying cry for the party to return to its traditional values and to "chuck Chequers" in a sign of his leadership ambitions.

Jose Mourinho fires back at Paul Scholes after 'embarrassing' tirade
Following the 0-0 draw with Los Che, Mourinho was asked whether or not he had heard what Scholes said. Next up for Mourinho and United is a home match against Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend.

Businesses are increasingly anxious for clarity as they try to plan for how Britain's departure from the European Union will affect supply chains and tariffs in the months ahead.

If the Tories don't unite, "we risk ending up with no Brexit at all", she added. "But my job as prime minister is to do what I believe to be in the national interest".

Ruling out a no deal outcome would weaken UK's negotiating position.

May and her team face weeks of hard conversations with Brussels, especially after Hunt offended some in the bloc by comparing the EU to the old Soviet Union in asserting that the EU was trying to "punish" any member seeking to leave it.

May's speech was welcomed by many in a party worn down by Brexit bickering.

At home it won't be any easier.

"So this is our proposal. This is not taking back control: this is forfeiting control", he said. "It delivers the referendum, it keeps faith with the British people". It is not a solicitation to make any exchange in commodities, securities or other financial instruments.
