Republicans take careful steps to secure the FBI's background report of Brett Kavanaugh ordered after he was accused of sexual assault

Amid complaints that some lawmakers were being confronted outside their homes, McConnell claimed on the Senate floor that the protesters were "part of the organized effort" to derail Kavanaugh's nomination. "The Senate will vote on this nomination this week".

Hours before Trump's speech, Ford's lawyers sent a letter to FBI Director Chris Wray saying they've received no response from anyone involved in the reopened background investigation Kavanaugh.

He and Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her when they were both teenagers, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week.

The Trump era has, at times, been uncomfortable for Republican women, especially the six senators who will be asked to vote for Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation by week's end.

At a campaign rally in MS rally on Tuesday, the audience laughed as Trump ran through a list of what he described as holes in Ford's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. According to Kavanaugh's 1982 calendar, he hosted a party that included several people that Ford identified as being present on the night she was assaulted. "Downstairs? Where was it - I don't know." - though Ford has consistently said that it was an upstairs bedroom. "I know this because I heard Brett and his friends using these terms on multiple occasions".

" 'I had one beer!' Right?" he said to supporters at the rally as they cheered and laughed. 'I don't remember.' Where is the place?

A man identifying himself as Ford's former boyfriend said in the letter he saw Ford coach a friend on how to be less nervous during a polygraph examination.

She received a desk appearance ticket, meaning she was released and will be ordered to appear before authorities at a later date. The Bronx native was reportedly "throwing chairs, bottles and hookahs [smoking pipes] in the club at 3 a.m.", said the rep.

Mr Flake said on USA television: "There's no time and no place for remarks like that, that discuss something this sensitive at a political rally".

"With all of that you can not say that we've done anything but be respectful, and I do". But Trump has since changed his tone, believing a vigorous defense of Kavanaugh could energize Republican voters in advance of the midterm elections. "Wholly inappropriate and entirely unacceptable" chimed in Murkowski.

Trump had initially dubbed Ford a "very credible witness" even as he forcefully defended Kavanaugh against allegations of sexual misconduct, which have also been levied by at least two other women.

President Trump's mocking remarks come amid a protracted and heated confirmation process for Kavanaugh.

Senate Democrats are also sure to take issue with the White House's decision to prohibit the Federal Bureau of Investigation from looking into whether Kavanaugh committed perjury during last Thursday's Senate hearing. I don't care how many members they chase, how many people they harass here in the halls, we will not be intimated by these people, how many people they harass here in the halls.

Sources familiar with the talks told Reuters on September 11 that Canada was ready to give the United States limited dairy access. Canada would be allowed on board, he explained, but they'd have to agree to the terms spelled out in the bilateral agreement.

Opposition among Americans to Kavanaugh has increased since last week's hearing, Reuters/Ipsos polling data showed on Wednesday.

"The President was stating the facts", Ms Sanders said.

Disquiet about the President's intervention was not limited to those Republican senators who are undecided about Kavanaugh.

In a Twitter post, Mr Trump did not back away from his rally comments, instead attacking Mr Kavanaugh's Democrat critics.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders dismissed the widespread view that Trump mocked Ford.
