Brett Kavanaugh Confirmed by Senate, Creating Conservative Supreme Court Majority

Brett Kavanaugh has been through a bruising confirmation process which has included allegations of sexual misconduct from his student days which he categorically denies

In a vote on an issue that not only divided Democrats and Republicans but the entire United States of America, the US Senate confirmed Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court judge.

Lengthy speeches from senators predicted not only which future cases may appear in the court but also which way Justice Kavanaugh would vote on these cases, with speculation on the possible political and legal ramifications of the decision appearing to motivate many from the Democratic Party.

The fight to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is over. When President Trump took office in January 2017, he instead nominated now-Justice Neil Gorsuch.

Hours later, Kavanaugh, his family by his side, was sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts and retired Justice Anthony Kennedy. Protesters were also heard shouting from the Senate gallery during the roll call. They're both purportedly in favor of reproductive rights, which has been a major sticking point for Kavanaugh during his confirmation process.

Kavanaugh's confirmation had already been all but sealed Friday, when he won the support of key Senate Republican Susan Collins and conservative Democrat Joe Manchin.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said that Trump called Kavanaugh to congratulate him while onboard Air Force One as he headed to a campaign rally in Kansas.

United States rejects ICJ ruling that asked it to ease action on Iran
India is trying to import crude oil to Iran by $ 1.25 million tonnes of imports from the Indian Oil Corp (IOC) Mangalore. Khamenei said the United States has no other solution to confront Iran except through economic sanctions.

Trump watched the confirmation vote on a large-screen television tuned to Fox News in a wood-paneled cabin on the plane. The Senate vote delivered an election-season triumph to President Donald Trump that could swing the court rightward for a generation after a battle that rubbed raw the country's cultural, gender and political divides.

Trump is seeking a legacy as the president who put a strongly conservative stamp on the court.

At just 53 years old, Kavanaugh could conceivably serve on the court - now evenly divided between liberals and conservatives - for decades, tilting it to the right.

"This has all really helped me, No. 1, unify my conference, and No. 2, underscore the significance of the Senate", the Kentucky Republican said.

A large crowd has gathered on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to protest Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court. A group of them climbed the Capitol steps, and some were led away by police.

The vote ends a bitter struggle over Mr Kavanaugh's nomination, inflamed by accusations that he sexually assaulted women in the 1980s.

Amy Schumer arrested at Brett Kavanaugh protest
Comedian-actress Amy Schumer was also reportedly detained while protesting against Kavanaugh, according to MSNBC. Ratajkowski posted a photo of her during the protest on her Instagram announcing that she has been arrested.

A townhouse near the Washington residence of Republican Senator Susan Collins, whose backing for Kavanaugh helped get him over the line on Saturday, flew the flag of her home state ME upside down in protest.

The addition of Kavanaugh stands to reshape drastically the jurisprudence of many, if not all, of those issues.

"Vote them out!" the protesters chanted, along with: "Hey, hey, ho, ho, Kavanaugh has got to go". The Republican Party now controls the US Senate. On Friday, he accused the sexual assault survivors who confronted Sen.

Democrats don't seem to have the votes to keep Brett Kavanaugh from joining the Supreme Court, but that's not stopping them from taking to the Senate floor in a parade of speeches into the early morning against the conservative jurist.

Several polls show that Republican enthusiasm about voting, which had lagged behind, jumped after the Kavanaugh hearing last week.

Ten law professors from Iowa opposed Kavanaugh's confirmation based on his combative testimony September 27, signing onto a letter signed by more than 2,400 legal scholars that was sent to the Senate Thursday. "It's been a seminal event leading into the fall election". As one woman was removed from the gallery, her bloodcurdling scream echoed throughout the chamber as the vote paused, waiting for quiet to resume.
