Botham Shem Jean 26 was shot dead in his home by a Dallas police officer Thursday night

Authorities say the police officer had finished a shift and was returning home, still in full uniform, when she apparently entered the wrong apartment - Jean's apartment.

Officials were still concealing the identity of the police officer accused of mistakenly entering a Dallas apartment on Friday and killing the Black man who lived there.

The officer called 911 and Jean was transported to a local hospital where he died, police said.

At some point, the officer fired her weapon, hitting him police said.

Hall - who didn't provide details on that situation - said police aren't handling the case under the department's usual officer-involved shooting protocol.

A blood sample was drawn from the officer to test for alcohol and drugs.

Forecasters said radar spotted possible tornados spun off by the storm overnight in southern Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Locally, a day of rain and storms from the tropical storm passed in the Golden Triangle without any significant damage.

It happened around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Chief Hall stated that the officer is Caucasian.

She said there are more questions than answers.

Residents of the complex said they can access their units with a key or through a keypad code.

The Texas Rangers, a state-wide law enforcement agency, will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting.

Jean graduated in 2016 with a degree in accounting and management information systems from Harding University, where Bertram Jean said his son got the Arkansas school to send students to St. Lucia over the summer to do charity work.

"Super scary because the police are supposed to protect you and then they come home and you're just hanging out in your own house and then they come home thinking they're home or whatever", said Richard Healy Nelson, who lives in the complex. "Open up!'" another neighbour, Caitlin Simpson said.

"We heard cops yelling", said another neighbor.
