Dallas Officer Mistaken Apartment

Guyger, 30, was still wearing her uniform after working a full shift when she arrived at the apartment complex where she lives in Dallas on Thursday night. He described Jean as an "amazing individual" and said that "if the grand jury deems necessary, this officer should have to answer for her actions in a court of law in Dallas County".

"On behalf of the Dallas Police Department, we are continuing to pray for Mr. Jean's family, and ask that the community remain patient as this investigation is conducted", Dallas Police Chief Ulysha Renee Hall said in a statement.

"Somebody has to be insane not to realize that they walked into the wrong apartment", Allie Jean said.

The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. CST at the South Side Flats, an upscale apartment building south of Dallas' downtown. But Hall said Saturday during a criminal justice panel livestreamed on Facebook that the Texas Rangers, who took over the case, asked her department to hold off issuing an arrest warrant because they needed more time to look into information Guyger provided during an interview with investigators.

Hall said Friday that the officer's blood was drawn to be tested for drugs and alcohol.

He attended Harding University, a private Christian institution in Arkansas, and was a member of the Good News Singers and campus ministry.

Texas Rangers Investigating Apartment Shooting Involving Dallas Police Officer
The Texas Rangers, a state-wide law enforcement agency, will conduct an independent investigation of the shooting. The officer called 911 and Jean was transported to a local hospital where he died, police said .

The Rangers reportedly postponed pursuing a warrant against Officer Amber Guyger to follow up on information she told them- a courtesy that suspects nearly never receive after a police chief has called for an arrest.

Following Thurday's fatal shooting of Jean, Guyger was said to be "devastated", the Morning News reported.

"Botham Jean was exactly the sort of citizen we want to have in the city of Dallas", Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings told reporters at a press conference Saturday.

Guyger's arrest was announced as Jean's family and their attorneys say they met with prosecutors to demand the officer's arrest.

Per CBS News, the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation and have placed a manslaughter charge against Guyger on hold. "I don't know if she was exhausted, but that's pretty scary". "This family is upset", said attorney Lee Merritt. "Botham never saw color, never saw race. Botham wanted all of us to unite", his mother, Allison Jean, said at a vigil.

At a vigil Saturday, former professor Todd Genery said Jean loved life, people and his Lord.

Todd and Debbie Gentry drove to Dallas on Friday and picked up Botham Jean's mother at the airport.

Further details surrounding the death of Botham Shem Jean, a 26-year-old native of the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, were not immediately provided.

While Johnson could not answer the question during their meeting, the new evidence brought forward included a witness and video footage in the aftermath of the shooting, according to Merritt. "Then at some point, she fired her weapon striking the victim", Hall said.

"Botham did everything with passion", Allison Jean told the prayer service.
