Oculus hopes its $399 headset will bring virtual reality to the masses

Facebook Announces $399 Oculus Quest VR Headset

Facebook Announces $399 Oculus Quest VR Headset

The headset will go sale in spring 2019 for $399, complete with hand controllers to give people a sense of presence in virtual reality, Facebook Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said Wednesday at the Oculus Connect conference in San Jose, California.

Like the Oculus Go, the Oculus Quest is a wireless, standalone VR headset.

All eyes on Trump as he chairs key United Nations meeting
That view did not necessarily have much support from the leaders from the U.N.'s 192 other countries, however. Given Trump's smile, it's possible he couldn't quite parse why his colleagues were laughing in the moment.

The Oculus Quest is a standalone headset like the Oculus Go but offers a similar experience to what you'll get on the PC-tethered Oculus Rift. While Facebook didn't reveal many more details about the launch lineup beyond that, it did confirm the device will support older Oculus games as well.

Originally codenamed Santa Cruz, the Quest is the high-end, standalone VR headset it's been teasing since 2016. You need a good CPU, and if you want Rift level content you really need a powerful GPU - such as AMD's Radeon RX 56 - which goes for almost $700, or you need to suck it up and go with crummier graphics while saving money on something like Nvidia's GeForce GTX 970 - which can be had for around $350 if you're lucky. It will cost $400 Dollars at launch and comes with 64 GB of storage and a pair of improved Touch controllers. As part of those efforts, there will be over 50 titles available for the Quest at launch, including The Climb and Moss.

Versace rumoured to be Going on Sale soon
Versace had planned to float the company on the stock market but put the plans on hold owing to unfavourable conditions. The news of the imminent Versace sale was first reported by Italian daily Corriere della Sera earlier on Monday.

To map the world around the user, the Quest uses four wide-angle sensors in each corner of the device, allowing it to track the user's position without the need for external sensors. The reason why is simple: Whatever hardware is baked into Oculus Quest, it's going to use a different GPU solution than a standard AMD or Nvidia desktop/laptop GPU - and that means further optimization to make the game run ideally may be required before deploying it on the desktop. It also has 64GB of storage and a display resolution of 1600x1440 per eye.

Zuckerberg says the Quest is the final piece of the product puzzle for Oculus. "This is the all-in-one VR experience that we have been waiting for".

President Trump's Latest Tariffs on Chinese Goods will Hurt Consumers
A senior White House official said last week the USA will continue to engage China, but added there was no date for further talks. Trump earlier this month accused China of targeting rural voters who support his presidency by hitting agricultural goods.
