Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday the new Samsung mobile factory in Noida will further strengthen the bilateral relations between India and South Korea and enhance India's economy, adding that it will not only generate more jobs but also make India a global export hub. Located in Noida, India, on the outskirts of New Delhi, the factory will almost double Samsung's Noida unit capacity from around 68 million units a year to 120 million annually according to a report from Bloomberg.

The South Korean president Moon Jae-in is on an official visit in India.

The new Samsung factory will have the capacity of 120 million smartphones per year, and make everything from low-end smartphones that cost under US$100 to its flagship S9 model, according to the company.

Senate Republicans Meet Lavrov in Moscow Ahead of Trump-Putin Summit
Trump has expressed scorn for the alliance and is expected to upbraid European NATO members for not spending enough on their own defense.

As Samsung can manufacture its full range of phones at this one facility, the company can react to the local market with the population now preferring phones costing below $250 due to levels of income.

The Prime Minister noted that India now ranks second, globally, in the manufacture of mobile phones, with the number of mobile phone manufacturing factories rising from just 2, to 120, in about four years' time. More than 10 percent of its total production now takes place in India - but that figure could rise to 50 percent within the next three years if everything goes to plan. The present mobile phone manufacturing unit was added in 2005. South Korean investments in India amount to $4.64 billion between 2000-2017 with Kia Motors announcing a $1.1 billion investment to set up a manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh. Samsung has a distinct space in India. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp. said in April it will set up three more factories in India. He claimed that the factory will provide 35,000 jobs directly and indirectly, and the state government will ensure that the unit got the proper infrastructure it needed.

Samsung has opened the doors of what it's calling the world's largest smartphone factory.

Tropical wave now a tropical depression
The National Hurricane Center has been watching a cluster of showers and thunderstorms closely in the Central Atlantic. A tropical wave heading for the Caribbean is now a tropical depression and is headed for the Lesser Antilles.

The Indian mobile phone market grew by 48% YoY in the first quarter of 2018, driven by strong demand from the featurephone segment. Today, Samsung is the market leader across mobile segments. A bigger manufacturing plant, spread over 129000 sq. metres, will help Samsung meet the growing demand.

Ahead of the trip to India, Moon and his office emphasized the importance of India in the New Southern Policy on numerous occasions before the trip.
