Eden Hazard celebrates after scoring the 4-1 lead during the match

Nacer Chadli scored deep into second-half stoppage time to complete Belgium's 3-2 comeback win against Japan in the World Cup round of 16 on Monday.

Japan may well have conceded more than four goals overall, but played nearly the entire game with an extra man in a 2-1 win against Colombia, which had a player sent off in the third minute.

Belgium were expected to make light work of Japan but instead found themselves on the brink of a huge shock after going 2-0 down after 52 minutes.

Kick-off is 7pm Nigerian time.

Headline acts Messi and Ronaldo exit World Cup
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to discuss his retirement plans after the World Cup exit. Biglia and Mascherano both announced that they were retiring from global , the latter in tears.

Thomas Meunier, Jan Vertonghen, Kevin De Bruyne, Youri Tielemans and Leander Dendoncker are on yellow cards for Belgium and would miss the last eight with another booking, while Japan's Kawashima, Hasebe, Tomoaki Makino and Takashi Inui are in the same position.

Mertens admitted he had not paid too much attention to Japan's matches so far because "I don't like to watch so much soccer", but he knows the Asian team's big names, and knows they must be respected. Vertonghen made amends for making the error that gifted Japan its opening goal.

Teams such as Brazil or Mexico could await them in the quarterfinals, while France or Uruguay loom further down the line. Belgium may have pushed aside all in their way during the group stages but Japan also deserved to qualify from what was perhaps the most evenly spread group in terms of competition.

With players like Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku at his disposal, Martinez's team have more than enough quality to match their achievement at the last World Cup and secure a place in the quarter-finals, where Brazil could await. If they can put in the sort of determined, gritty, professional display that got them through their first two games, and start to hint at an upset of one of the more fancied sides, the fans will love them again.

Phoenix select Ayton first in NBA Draft, Dallas get Doncic at third
But as ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday , Doncic started to separate himself in the Hawks' internal draft conversation. I followed Doncic around the Barclays Center all evening, and the 19-year-old wunderkind really wasn't fazed by anything.

On the eve of the match at Rostov Arena, the Samurai Blue boss said he had learned from the national team's past two forays into the knockout stage, when Japan squads laboring under fatigue were eliminated in the last 16.

De Bruyne advanced the ball with a lovely push, making a ideal lead pass to Jan Vertonghen with room to run. Now, the time is to brush aside this Japan team.

For Japan, this could be the first ever time they have progressed to the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Japan, under the old management regime, in November 2017 lost 1-0 to Belgium with Romelu Lukaku scoring the only goal of the match.
