Four of 12 Thai schoolboys were rescued from a flooded cave on Sunday in a daring and unsafe operation to save the children and their soccer coach who have been trapped underground for more than two weeks.

US special operations teams and divers have been part of the Thai-led global rescue effort that led to four boys being pulled to safety from a cave Sunday after being trapped for 16 days. "They are now at the field hospital near the cave", Tossathep Boonthong, chief of the health department in Chiang Rai in northern Thailand, told Reuters. "The war ends when we win all three battles - the battles to search, rescue and send them home".

Their parents are waiting for them at Chiang Rai hospital, about an hour's drive away, the BBC reported.

"Divers will work with doctors in the cave to examine each the kids' health to determine who should get to come out first", Narongsak said Sunday morning.

A diver will be assigned to each of the boys and their 25-year-old coach, Ekapol Chanthawong. "The boys are ready to face any challenges", rescue chief Narongsak Osottanakorn told reporters near the cave site on Sunday morning.

A high of 23 C is predicted for Friday and cooler temperatures will last through the weekend, into next week. Numerous victims were older than 50, male, living alone and had no air conditioning, said Dr.

Officials are now limiting the number of rescue workers who can travel into the cave to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that builds when they exhale. The pause will give divers time to prepare gear, including masks and refilling air tanks, for the next round of rescue efforts.

The boys were immediately taken to the hospital for evaluation after being trapped underground for almost two weeks.

Thais were quick to jump onto social media on Sunday night to celebrate the rescue of the initial four.

Two more boys were pulled from the cave a short time later from where they had been marooned by floodwaters more than two miles from the cave entrance, the Thai Navy SEAL official Facebook page said. The ambulances drove to a nearby helipad and a helicopter was seen taking off.

Jake Zweig said on "Fox & Friends" that he was confident in the SEALs working to rescue the 12 boys and their coach, but that there is a possibility of a rescuer losing his life.

Trump has expressed scorn for the alliance and is expected to upbraid European NATO members for not spending enough on their own defense.

But for many in Thailand, Ekapol, who left his life in the monkhood three years ago and joined the Wild Boars as an assistant coach soon after, is an nearly divine force, sent to protect the boys as they go through this ordeal.

On July 4, Thai navy SEALS released video of the boys who appeared to be in good spirits despite the harrowing conditions.

Monsoon flooding cut off their escape route and prevented rescuers from finding them for nearly 10 days.

Getting to and from where the boys are has been an exhausting round trip, even for the experienced divers.

Rescue teams have been helped by the fact that the rain stopped for several days, Chinchar said, allowing water to be pumped out of the caves and making it possible for the four boys and specialist rescue teams to make the final leg of the journey on foot. "I miss everyone. Grandpa, Uncle, Mom, Dad and siblings, I love you all". "I had been anxious about my son, that he would be exhausted, he would be tired", he said.
