Cristiano Ronaldo broke Ferenc Puskas' record for the most global goals by a European player with his winning goal for Portugal against Morocco in their 2018 World Cup group match on Wednesday.

Ronaldo scored in the fourth minute of the match to become the highest-scoring European player in global soccer history.

Ronaldo's brilliant hat-trick earned Portugal a point against Spain in the first game but Morocco have to bounce back from defeat to Iran in opening match.

They beat Portugal 3-1 in the group stage of the 1986 World Cup; it was Morocco's first ever win at the tournament and Portugal's only World Cup loss against African opposition.

But it is another former Bayern Munich forward, Iran's Ali Daei, whom Ronaldo will need to overhaul as the all-time top scorer in the history of worldwide football.

Chelsea and Man United consider a swap deal involving Martial and Willian
Chelsea attacker Willian is a £60m target for former manager Jose Mourinho at Manchester United , according to a report . The 22-years-old scored 12 goals and provided seven assists last season. "He can improve (them) a lot".

Ronaldo also leads the way when it comes to the Golden Boot after scoring his fourth goal of the tournament.

A crude lunge from Benatia on Ronaldo left the Portugal skipper writhing around in pain, while Morocco felt aggrieved when Nordin Amrabat was hauled down by Guerreiro as he muscled his way into the area.

But Portugal's supremacy was confined to the scoresheet because for possession, passes made and attempts on goal Morocco were the superior team.

Before the match Portugal coach Fernando Santos said his team must not exclusively rely on their captain but, once again, it was Ronaldo who proved to be the match victor, though his performance was not as spectacular as his display in the 3-3 against Spain. "We know he's excellent and surrounded by good players".

The Atlas Lions, who lost 0-1 to Iran in their first game, lie bottom of the group without a point. "Nothing is done in this group so we will have to be strong and determined".

Tory rebellions against May's Brexit plans 'could bring down government'
Theresa May told BBC One's The Andrew Marr Show that 'Parliament can not tie the hands of government in negotiations'. That would tee up a showdown when the legislation returns to the lower House of Commons for a vote on Wednesday.

"I'm not disappointed about the performance, I'm happy with it and very proud of my players", emotional Morocco coach Herve Renard told reporters.

"I managed to score a goal, it was great for me".

Morocco end their World Cup campaign against Spain on June 25, looking to sign out of Russian Federation with at least a goal to their name. They have so much attacking quality.

With both sides failing to win their opening Group B match, there was a tense atmosphere inside Luzhniki Stadium prior to kick-off.

Brexit: MPs reject bid to stay in EEA amid Labour revolt
This is where Conservative rebels like Nicky Morgan, Anna Soubry and Ken Clark are expected to make their biggest move on customs. Leading rebel Dominic Grieve said he hoped a compromise would be found, but if not, "this isn't the end of the matter".
