Right-To-Die Advocate David Goodall Ends Life Listening To 'Ode To Joy'

And in his final minutes, he listened to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, best known for its last movement Ode to Joy, reportedly passing away shortly after the piece of music finished. A doctor placed the cannula in his arm, and Goodall had to turn the wheel for the pentobarbital to enter his system.

Exit International, the group that helped David Goodall carry out his wish, said the scientist was declared dead at 12:30 p.m.in Liestal, a town outside the city of Basel, where he had traveled to take advantage of Switzerland's assisted-suicide laws.

The British-born scientist, described by Exit International as its first member, said this week that he had been contemplating the idea of suicide for about 20 years, but only started thinking about it for himself after his quality of life deteriorated over the last year.

He was accompanied by Dr Philip Nitschke, founder of Australian right-to-die group Exit International, and Swiss clinic Life Circle's lawyer Moritz Gall.

Goodall, a botanist and ecologist who was thought to be Australia's oldest scientist, said on his 104th birthday last month he had simply lived too long.

USA gives green light to drone delivery test program
Current rules prohibit nighttime drone flights or operations over people without a waiver from the FAA. Several incidents around major airports have involved drones getting close to aircraft.

This is the first time a relatively healthy person has made a decision to pursue euthanasia, as most who choose to do so suffer from terminal illnesses.

In less than 24 hours, Australia's oldest scientist will be injected with a lethal mix of drugs, closing the chapter on his 104-year life.

"I am awaiting this", he said of his impending departure.

He wanted his body to be donated to science or for his ashes to be sprinkled.

Two days before his death, he said since the past 5-10 years, that he had stopped enjoying life because of his failing mobility and sight.

In NBA playoffs, teams are quick to tinker with lineups
And whether he's still with the Pelicans remains to be seen; New Orleans wants him back, but he'll be a free agent this summer. After Games 1 and 2 at Oracle Arena, the Pelicans let it be known that they weren't happy about the free-throw disparity.

"I am content to leave them undone".

He said he would have preferred to die in Australia and previously voiced his resentment over the country's laws.

"I'm looking forward to it", he said of his imminent death.

However, the Australian Medical Association's president, Dr Michael Gannon, says he was concerned that the "suicide of someone who's aged 100" was being celebrated. "I'm not happy. I want to die".

In 2016, aged 102, he won a battle to keep working on campus at Perth's Edith Cowan University, where he was an unpaid honorary research associate.
