US and South Korean officials have maintained contact ahead of the Trump-Kim meeting, and President Moon is headed to the White House on May 22 to discuss related matters.

President Donald Trump indicated he would try to replicate the conciliatory mood on the Korean Peninsula by toning down his own pointed rhetoric, which helped escalate tensions between the United States and North Korea a year ago.

In 2017, Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un traded verbal salvos after the regime conducted several missile launches and a nuclear test that, by most accounts, had reached unprecedented levels.

The Moon visit was announced after Trump's national security adviser, John Bolton, met with his South Korean counterpart, Chung Eui-yong, at the White House on Friday.

Macron reiterates need to keep Iran nuclear deal
Asked about the IAEA's conclusion on CNN's "New Day", Netanyahu replied: "No one had better intelligence on Iran than Israel". Iran has long said its nuclear program was for civilian purposes and that it is committed to never developing atomic weapons.

At the inter-Korean summit last Friday, held on the southern side of the DMZ, Moon and Kim pledged to rid the peninsula of nuclear weapons and seek a formal end this year to the Korean conflict where the opposing sides remain technically at war more than six decades after fighting halted with an armistice.

The pair also reaffirmed that there are no plans to change the bilateral defense posture in South Korea.

Trump, a former reality TV star who likes to build suspense about upcoming presidential news, did not give a date or location for the North Korea summit, and White House officials did not immediately provide further clarity.

Should it materialize it would be a historic sit-down for a serving USA president and a North Korean leader.

Kim expressed "his resolution to unify the two times.as the first practical step for national reconciliation and unity", it said, and the North's parliament on Monday adopted a decree to put the move into effect from Saturday.

'We're having very substantive talks with North Korea and a lot of things have already happened with respect to the (US) hostages. This divide may be bridged by unprecedented North Korean nuclear arsenal cuts in exchange for unprecedented US diplomatic ties and economic aid. There have been no details about Kim's specific demands. That session was considered among the last steps before Trump could schedule a face-to-face meeting with Kim.

On April 27, when US Secretary of Defense James Mattis was asked whether it would be necessary to maintain the American troops on the Korean Peninsula if indeed there was a peace treaty, he said that was part of the issues that the US would be discussing with its allies first beside North Korea.

'I won't use the rhetoric now, ' he said.
