The Governor of the USA state of Iowa on Friday, May 4, signed into law a ban on abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which occurs as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.

However, the measure would not ban abortion after six weeks in all cases - some exemptions include instances of rape, incest, fetal abnormalities or to save the mother's life.

"The reality is, with new scientific methods, we know when the heart starts beating in an unborn child and ... we use when the heart stops to define when death occurs", Edler said.

Fed holds rates steady as inflation picks up
In Wednesday's statement , Fed officials said that inflation had "moved close" to the central bank's annual 2 percent target. Policymakers dropped language in previous post-meeting statements that said they were closely monitoring inflation.

The governor has not directly commented on the bill and whether or not she will sign it into law, but Smith reiterated today that Reynolds, who is a Republican, is unequivocally pro-life.

The bill now goes to Republican Governor Kim Reynolds, an abortion opponent, who has not said publicly whether she will sign it into law.

The law requires women seeking abortions to undergo an ultrasound, banning the procedure if a fetal heartbeat is detected - typically at about six weeks into a pregnancy. Last session, they passed a bill banning most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, which is in effect. Iowa's Republican-controlled Legislature approved the legislation earlier in the week.

Reuters Poll: Black male approval for President Trump doubles in one week
Despite the backlash among liberals, it's clear that Kanye West is slowly beginning to win more black support for President Trump. I don't think he said it with the intention to hurt anybody.

While supporters of these new restrictive abortion laws say that this is a step forward for justice, critics feel it's another overstep by the government obstructing the rights of women.

The legislation will nearly certainly draw a swift court challenge and the move sets the scene for another lengthy legal battle as anti-abortion lawmakers ultimately eye the landmark Roe v Wade 1973 supreme court ruling that legalized abortion in the US. It has taken decades for the science to catch up to what many have believed all along: "that she's a baby", Rep. Shannon Lundgren, added, according to Iowa Public Radio.

ACLU of Iowa Executive Director Mark Stringer issued this statement on the new law: "The ACLU of Iowa, along with Planned Parenthood, will not let this unsafe, unconstitutional law stand". Reynolds said. "For me, my faith leads me to protect every Iowan, no matter how small". "We have to put forth legislation that will challenge the courts in order to force that discussion".

Russian fighter jet crashes over Mediterranean
Pilots "fought to take the aircraft under control till the last minute", the Russian Defense ministry said . AFP reports that the Thursday's accident brings Russia's official military life losses in Syria to 86.

"However, this is bigger than just a law; this is about life". Rick Bertrand say they're counting on such a fight and plan to win it. It also will potentially cost Iowa taxpayers millions of dollars in legal fees at a time when our state budget is already in crisis, thanks to Gov. Reynolds' mismanagement.
