Russia Sanctions Will Not Affect Trump- Putin Meeting Plans: White House

The United States introduced sanctions on Friday against seven Russian businessmen, twelve companies under their control and 17 officials, a senior government official told reporters.

Despite the latest sanctions, which took the number of people and entities linked with Russian Federation to be punished since Mr Trump took office to 189, the White House has said discussions about a summit with Mr Putin would continue. "As the president has said, he wants to have a good relationship with Russia but that's going to depend on some of the actions by the Russians", she said at a news briefing.

The measures were taken under a United States law passed to punish Russian Federation for its alleged bid to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, engage in cyber-warfare and intervene in Ukraine and Syria.

Former Solicitor General Kenneth Starr said Saturday on "Fox & Friends" that the Mueller probe into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation doesn't seem to be actually investigating that particular allegation.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the USA was "striking at ordinary Americans" by jeopardising "thousands of jobs".

"Not at all", Ms Sanders said.

Those being punished aren't necessarily involved in the Russian actions in Syria, Ukraine or elsewhere that have drawn consternation from the West. But officials said the goal was to put pressure on Mr Putin by showing that those who have benefited financially from his position of power are fair game. Both Mr Miller and Mr Kostin are longtime key members of Mr Putin's team. Many other targets were associated with Russia's energy sector, including parts of Gazprom. Assets of those targeted in the United States have been blocked, and all USA -based entities are forbidden from doing business with them.

Russia's state arms exporter, was also added to the sanctions list.

The president enjoined all those with grievances over the outcome of the elections to seek constitutional means of resolving them. The candidate who lost Sierra Leone's presidential run-off vote has said his party intends to challenge the results in court.

Campaigners against Kremlin corruption welcomed the United States move.

"Russian oligarchs and elites who profit from this corrupt system will no longer be insulated from the consequences of their government's destabilising activities", a statement from the treasury department said on Friday. The lists, required under a law passed past year, were informally seen as lists of potential future sanctions targets, even though the public version of the oligarchs list was merely a reprint of Forbes' list of billionaires in Russian Federation.

The US also has punished Russian Federation for other troubling activity, including its alleged involvement in the poisoning an ex-spy with a military-grade nerve agent in Britain.

Trump's administration reacted by expelling 60 Russians they accused of being spies working under diplomatic cover and Moscow responded in kind.

Becerra also has responded to the administration's push to permit oil drilling off California's coasts. In its 17-page complaint, the federal government is relying on the U.S.
