China's Manufacturing Growth Slows to Four-Month Low

Malaysia's March 2018 manufacturing performance may not look "encouraging" going by the continued decline in the Nikkei Malaysia Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) last month.

Analysts polled by Reuters expect the survey to come in at 54.7, down from 55.2 in February.

"The market group breakdown revealed manufacturers operating in consumption and intermediate market groups signaled no appetite for recruitment", Aashna Dodhia, Economist at IHS Markit, said.

Output and new orders both expanded in March albeit at a slower pace.

Manufacturing output growth had remained steadily above 1% towards the end of previous year but may have fallen to about 0.5%, according to economists.

Of the 18 manufacturing industries, 17 reported growth in March. The peso's depreciation against the US dollar didn't help matters either.
