In an odd twist, the Post reports that Mohamed Toure is the son of Ahmed Sekou Toure, Guinea's first president, who held office from 1958 until his death in 1984. Throughout the years, until the victim escaped in August 2016, the defendants forced the victim to labor in their home for long hours without pay.

An agent with the State Department said the alleged victim claimed she was called a "whore" and a "slave" at one point, and that when she refused to do the work, the couple "started physically abusing her".

Cros-Toure's attorney Scott Palmer denies the allegations and told AP that the woman, whose name has not been released, was a distant relative sent from Guinea as a child to be raised alongside the couple's children.

Soon afterward, when he saw Ryan, Father Conroy said the speaker told him, "Padre, you just got to stay out of politics". Marcy Kaptur, a Democrat, is said to be working on a discharge petition to prevent Conroy's resignation.

Attorneys for a North Texas couple are blasting accusations that they committed a girl to a life of forced labor. She was forced to cook, clean, do the laundry, perform yard work and care for their children, the affidavit said, adding her actual age was unclear because the Toures had seized her documents to prevent her from leaving.

It could be from 5 to 14 years old when she was brought to Texas from African Guinea in 2000.

Palmer says the husband and wife are both still in jail and face a detention hearing on Monday.

A neighbor says the family introduced the girl as their niece, and she was often seen walking both alone and with the family, running errands and grabbing Starbucks. "She wasn't considered a housekeeper", Mr Palmer said.

Mr Palmer confirmed this, but said it was because she had overstayed her visa, and the family feared that she would be deported.
