Overcoming Federer Nadal in the rankings is not main goal- Del Potro

John Isner ended Juan Martin del Potro's 15-match winning streak in straight sets as he eased into the Miami Open final.

The last time Del Potro lost was more than a month ago, on 23 February against #NextGenATP American Frances Tiafoe at the Delray Beach Open.

However, a dominant performance from Isner put paid to those hopes, as the powerful American claimed a 6-1 7-6 (7-2) success.

The American, who has never won at Miami, will face the victor of the other semi-final between German fourth seed Alexander Zverev and Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in Sunday's final.

Isner, who won an impressive 83 percent of points on his second serve, was aiming to reach his fifth ATP Masters final and, finally, emerge victorious from one after four defeats.

There was a moment at 3-2 in the second set when del Potro threatened to get back in the match with a break of serve.

Yet those delays only fueled the wild reaction from the boisterous crowd, which Spielberg likens to a Bruce Springsteen concert. In the original book, the auto is a hybrid, including features from Knight Rider's K.I.T.T. and Ghostbusters' Ecto-1.

John Isner punctuated his unexpected run to the Miami Open title with a surprising display of agility, dancing across the court while basking in a breakthrough.

He raced to a 3-0 lead, finished with 13 aces, never faced a deuce point on his serve and was at his best when closing out the victory. Isner then held at love, and on the final three points he smacked aces, giving him 18 for the match and 79 for the tournament.

"I think the main reason why I'm playing so well - there is two reasons, really", he explained. "He was better than me, and he deserved to win".

"We both grew up in Saddlebrook, practising together since I was 14 so I want to thank you for teaching me how to play the game and practising with me from such a young age".

"I mean, look, it's going to be a completely different match", Zverev predicted.

The most fascinating part of this matchup is seeing the efficiency of Isner coming into the forecourt against someone that strikes their passing shots as fluid as Zverev does. "He played well in Indian Wells, and is playing well here", Zverev said. "I am super fresh and ready to go for the final".

The German secured his first top-20 victory of the season in what's been a slow start to the year by his high standards to set up an intriguing tie with Borna Coric.

"What I am doing seems to be normal, but it's not a little thing".

"I love to play in matches like this", a visibly tired del Potro said after his 15th straight match win.

Isner, 32, has won 12 singles titles during his career, but he will seek his first in a 1,000-point masters tournament. He probably will not get many chances on the American's serve, which is clear to see after the way he has been serving all week, but the German has to stay positive and acknowledge that he has to be clinical when the opportunity comes.

Carreno Busta gave as good as he got in the opening set, but Zverev took over the rest of the way, sprinting through a second set in which he dominated on serve and broke his 16th-seeded opponent twice.

In the opening set tiebreak, Zverev sent a crushing backhand victor up the line to earn a set point.
