YouTube will increase the number of ads that some users see between music videos, part of a strategy to convince more of its billion-plus viewers to pay for a forthcoming subscription music service from the Google-owned video site.

New guidelines published on YouTube prohibit certain videos featuring firearms -such as how to assemble a firearm or how to install accessories, such as high capacity magazines.

The company has chose to take a hard stance on videos that promote gun modifications, tutorials, and ban all videos that link directly to sites that sell weapons or accessories like bump stocks.

"We routinely make updates and adjustments to our enforcement guidelines across all of our policies", a YouTube spokeswoman said in a statement.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry's trade association, said YouTube's new policies are "troubling" and "worrisome", according to a statement posted online.

YouTube's upcoming music service will reportedly feature exclusive videos, playlists and other content that the tech company would help produce, notes The Next Web.

A YouTube spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal the company several years ago banned videos explicitly promoting the sale of firearms, but recently made a decision to expand the restrictions. The company had previously banned videos showing how to make firearms discharge faster, a technique used by the gunman who killed 58 people in Las Vegas last fall.

InRange TV said on Facebook this week that the channel will be moving its content to the porn website PornHub following YouTube's change.

According to InRange TV's Facebook post, it recently deleted its AdSense account and has now chose to post content to PornHub in addition to YouTube, Full30, Facebook, and BitChute. "The exercise of what amounts to censorship, then, can legitimately be viewed as the stifling of commercial free speech", it added.
