As the company explains, the basic principles are the same but driving a semi is harder as the braking, turning radius and blind spots are completely different than on normal passenger cars.

Waymo for years has been testing self-driving cars, racing against smartphone-summoned ride star Uber, whose trucking service uses humans to pick up cargo from Uber Freight customers and drive it in trailers to transfer hubs. Interestingly, the company said it now has nearly 10 years of experience in self-driving passenger vehicles, which it will leverage for its autonomous trucks.

Waymo, the self-driving vehicle unit owned by Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL), has always been at the forefront of the self-driving auto revolution, and now it's bringing that expertise into the commercial trucking world as well.

This is Getting Ugly for Mark Cuban
Cuban steadfastly denies the accusation throughout the conversation and re-iterated his denial in a statement to the Week. Cuban spoke to police directly following the report being filed. "I stand behind that report 1,000 percent".

Over the past year, Waymo has been quietly conducting road tests of Waymo's self-driving trucks in California and Arizona.

Since this technology is still in its infancy compared to some of Waymo's other projects, their autonomous semi trucks will have "highly-trained" drivers in the cab at all times, ready to take control of the vehicle in the event of an emergency or an AI hiccup.

"They benefit from the same advanced self-driving software that has enabled our cars to go fully driverless in Arizona", the Waymo team said.

Finally, Trump sends top diplomat to Kenya
Tillerson spoke about China's investment in the continent at a lecture at George Mason University on Tuesday. But he said the Chinese approach has led to mounting debt and few if any jobs in most countries.

Today's announcement comes a couple of weeks after Waymo announced its self-driving cars had covered 5 million miles on public roads.

Waymo's goal is to eventually integrate this technology into their shipping operations across their network of factories, distribution centers, ports and terminals.

While Waymo is starting a new pilot program for self-driving truck technology, it's definitely isn't the only company doing so. There, the trailers are hitched onto self-driving trucks for long highway hauls, according to the San Francisco-based company.

The result exceeded expectations and thrust the party into the driving seat of a right-wing alliance forged by Silvio Berlusconi . MATTEO Renzi has resigned as head of Italy's Democratic Party following his humiliating defeat during the national elections.

"As we look to the future of innovation and efficiency, self-driving vehicles are at the forefront of enhancing roadway safety and making the transportation of American goods more feasible".
