Uber Health Will Drive You To Doctor's Appointments

Uber has announced the launch of a new service, Uber Health, to transport patients who need rides to and from physicians.

What makes this service even better- riders don't need to have the app or even a smartphone to use it! Now, Uber, which held 84 percent of the USA market in 2017, plans to help patients and providers arrange rides. Rather, Uber Health is accessed by medical staff through a web dashboard, where they can input the patient's name, phone number and pick up/drop off locations, and select a vehicle type. Hospitals, doctors and other providers could be eager to pay for those rides if it means more on-time appointments and fewer no-shows - which translates into more revenue in their pockets. Jay Holley, head of Partnerships at Uber Health, said it's up to the doctors and providers to understand a person's physical state to know if an Uber auto is the best form of transportation for them. For those with particularly serious health complications requiring frequent follow-up visits and specialist appointments, Uber Health could be even more valuable. The new app is available in two variations: an online dashboard that the healthcare providers can use, as well as an API that software developers can use to integrate ride-hailing capabilities into their own apps and/or tools. Features include access for patients without a smartphone, billing and reporting for organizations to keep track of spending on rides and HIPAA compliance.

Whether it's helping seniors regain their independence, providing newfound mobility to those living in underserved areas, or providing a safe alternative to drinking and driving, Uber has changed the way people live their lives in ways that were never expected.

Additionally, if a patient experiences some kind of medical emergency in an Uber, the company says the driver is encouraged to call 911.

Uber Health is now being used by more than 100 healthcare organizations in the United States including clinics, hospitals, rehab centers, senior care facilities, and more as part of a beta program. We're unveiling a new service focused on an issue vital to all of us: health.

Every year, 3.6 million Americans miss doctor appointments due to a lack of reliable transportation.

YouTube Live Automatic Captions Enabled
Super Chat is already available on desktop and Android devices, with support for iOS devices rolling out starting today. They'll roll this out in the coming weeks, and will continue to improve accuracy and latency of automatic captions .

This ends up costing the health care system about $150 billion each year.

While Uber Health seems like a positive service in several aspects, privacy experts were quick to point out that Uber's past data breaches might present some concerns in the near term. "This service will provide reliable, comfortable transportation for patients".
