Super Bowl champion Le Garrette Blount joins Lions

The Detroit Lions have signed veteran running back LeGarrette Blount, the team announced Friday. Blount finished last season with 173 carries for 766 yards and two touchdowns, as well as eight receptions for 50 yards and one touchdown for the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. He was a member of the New England Patriots team that won Super Bowl 51 and he also was with the Patriots when they won Super Bowl 49.

He is tied with Marcus Allen for sixth on the career postseason touchdowns list with 11. The Lions have inked Blount to a one-year deal worth $2 million with incentives that could boost it to $4.5 million. He proved not only to be an effective runner but was key in creating a loose locker room atmosphere and remained invested after losing snaps to Jay Ajayi, whom the Eagles acquired from the Miami Dolphins at the trade deadline. The 31-year-old former undrafted free agent has made $1.5 million or less in each of the last four seasons and has never made more than $1.85 million in a season during his career.
