"In his complaint, which was filed at the end of January in San Mateo, Calif., Wilberg says he and other recruiters had to nix interviews if the applicants weren't black, female, or Hispanic, and that applications that didn't fall under those demographics were to be "[purged] entirely".

In January, James Damore, the engineer who was sacked after writing a screed against Google's diversity efforts, filed a lawsuit alleging discrimination against white people, men, and political conservatives.

Ever since Google released its first transparency report in 2014, the company's efforts to diversify its overwhelmingly male, white, and Asian workforce have been criticized as too little and too late for a company founded in 1998. Thursday, Arne Wilberg, a former technical recruiter in Google's YouTube unit, filed suit, alleging that YouTube illegally used quotas as recently as past year in an attempt to hire more black, Latinx, and female engineers.

Wilberg also alleges some of his former co-workers were uncomfortable with one of Google's hiring initiatives, "Project Mirror", which required current employees to interview job candidates of the same race and sex.

"We have a clear policy to hire candidates based on their merit, not their identity", she said in an emailed statement.

Last month, Tim Chevalier, an ex-software developer at Google, also filed a lawsuit claiming that the company fired him over pro-diversity posts circulated internally.

Google has been training its employees how to recognize unconscious bias, but Damore's memo is proof that diversity is not always seen as part of Google's cultural values.

Google is facing diverse diversity lawsuits. When Lee filed a complaint with H.R.at the company's urging, she said that Google declined to investigate.

He claims he "repeatedly opposed these illegal and discriminatory hiring practices by complaining to his managers and HR", telling them "it was illegal to have such hiring quotas favoring certain groups based on race and gender".

Officer of Google, and Eileen Naughton ("Naughton"), the Human Resources Director of Google. In one case, it claims, hiring managers pressured Wilberg to make an applicant over 40 apply for a position he wasn't qualified for so the job seeker would fail to gain employment at Google. He claimed Google's top brass discriminated against conservative men.
