Wylie became a central figure in the scandal involving the data firm last week when he told the U.K.'s Observer newspaper and the New York Times that Cambridge Analytica allegedly used personal information of up to 50 million Facebook users without their knowledge through a third-party quiz app. And built models to exploit what we knew about them and target their inner demons.

In a major setback for the Congress party, Cambridge Analytica's former Director Christopher Wylie has said in his testimony to the House of Commons committee in the United Kingdom that the data company worked with the party during elections.

He said they shared underlying technology and worked so closely together that Cambridge Analytica staff often referred to the Canadian firm as a "department". I don't remember a national project but I know regionally.

"One of the reasons why I'm speaking out is because I think that it's really concerning that no one has really investigated Cambridge Analytica and its role in the 2016 election", Wylie told ABC News.

Lionel Messi did not play, but was till the centre of attention at the Etihad. Information from ESPN's Adriana Garcia was used in this report.

Christopher Wylie deposed before the House of Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee (DCMS) in London amid an escalating row around alleged Facebook data breaches linked with the controversial UK-based company, which has also been linked with alleged attempts to influence elections in India.

During a lengthy session in which MPs from across the political spectrum on the culture, media and sport (DCMS) committee quizzed Wylie, he provided a snapshot of the work carried out by the firms, now in the spotlight, highlighting how data captured enabled them to build up psychological profiles of individuals who would be particularly susceptible to forms of certain tactics. "This is a company that has gone around the world and undermined the democratic process", he said. "This was a breach of trust, and I am sorry", the back-page ads said.

During his testimony, Wiley also said that the official campaign backing Britain's exit from the European Union had access to data that was inappropriately collected from millions of Facebook users.

He also told lawmakers that his predecessor at SCL, the parent company, died under mysterious circumstances in Kenya.

Trump Administration Plans to Ban Bump Stocks While Blaming Obama
President Donald Trump says his administration will "BAN" bump stock devices that "turn legal weapons into illegal machines". The comment period for the amendment is 90 days.

The firm went on to deny it had any links to Cambridge Analytica or any of its subsidiaries, and has never worked in Nigeria.

Reports also claim that Rahul Gandhi and a few other members of the Opposition met with Cambridge Analytica's former CEO Alexander Nix to discuss electoral strategy for UPA. "He was not, as he claims, a founder of Cambridge Analytica", the firm added. Cambridge Analytica denies any of the data acquired was used as part of the services it provided to the Trump campaign.

But election rigging was not particularly profitable, so, Wiley said, Cambridge Analytica made its real money by introducing top government officials to African businessmen in what he dubbed a "privatized colonizing operation".

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, on Monday called for Zuckerberg to testify before Congress about Cambridge Analytica's alleged misuse of the Facebook data and the possibility that that data may not have been not destroyed in 2015, as the data firm certified to the social media company.
