Battle for Karnataka

The Election Commission on Tuesday announced polling dates for Karnataka at press conference in New Delhi.

BJP's IT cell head Amit Malviya tweeted the date of polling and counting for the Karnataka Assembly elections even before the Election Commission announced its schedule.

Malviya, however, tweeted that he had only quoted a news channel.

Local students take part of nationwide 'March for our Lives' movement
For the past month Sherman, Sari Kaufman and other students have worked tirelessly on the rally to advocate for gun reform. The fifth grader was asked to speak after she organized an 18 minute walk out with her friend Carter on March 14.

The counting date turned out to be wrong as the EC announced that the votes will be counted on May 15. The election commission held a press conference in which it said that special arrangements are going to be made for women's safety, with 450 all female centres to be set to ensure their protection. The deleted tweet had it as May 18.

The 224-member Assembly expires on May 28 in the state where the Congress is now in power, with 122 seats against the BJP's 43.

Amit Malviya also wrote a letter to the Election Commission, reiterating that he had tweeted the information based on the Times Now flash at 11:06 am, and even attached the tweet of Srivatsav. For the latter, it is critical as this is the only big state where it is in power after losing a string of assembly elections to BJP over the last few years. When asked about Malviya's revelations, Chief Election Commission OP Rawat said that it was possible that "certain things maybe have leaked", adding that it will be "investigated".

N.Korea agrees to hold high-level talks: Seoul
South Korean officials also brokered a potential meeting between Mr Kim and President Donald Trump by the end of May. The rivals agreed to a summit in late April when Mr Moon's envoys visited Mr Kim in Pyongyang earlier this month.

The alleged leak of election dates had snowballed into a major political storm with political parties, including Congress and CPI, demanding strict action against those responsible for it. I expect EC to work according to the Constitution and law, and not let information leak.

Shah corrected himself, went on a damage control and said he meant that Congress government of Chief Minister "Siddaramaiah would come first in a competition for the most corrupt government".

As if the stir caused by BJP's IT chief Amit Malviya wasn't enough, it was the turn of BJP President Amit Shah to inadvertently create another controversy.

Donald Trump Threatens To Shut Down US Government Over Twitter
The US Senate has completed congressional approval of a sweeping $1.3tn (£921bn) package to fund the government until September. Republican conservatives are dismayed by the free-spending measure, which means Democratic votes are required to pass it.
