The United States announced its heaviest ever sanctions on North Korea on Saturday to pressure the reclusive country into giving up its nuclear and ballistic missiles programmes.

As a result of the sanctions, any property or interests in property of the designated persons in the possession or control of U.S. persons or those within the U.S. must be blocked, and U.S. persons are prohibited from dealing with any of the designated parties, said the U.S. Treasury.

However, he cryptically warned of a potential "phase two", which may prove "very, very unfortunate for the world".

"Only time will tell", he added.

Manchester United's only victory in the past 14 meetings in all competitions came at home in the league last season (D5, L8). United take on Chelsea this weekend at Old Trafford, where Pogba will be hoping to impress.

North Korea is known to use the profits from its coal exports to finance its weapons programs, according to Treasury.

Though Russia has traded with North Korea, it wasn't mentioned Friday as a country of origination for any of the sanctioned companies or vessels. The department called its action the "largest North Korea-related sanctions tranche to date". The Treasury Department says the shippers are participating in a complex scheme to help North Korea dodge United Nations restrictions against imports of refined fuel and exports of coal.

The new sanctions will be announced while Mr. Trump's daughter, Ivanka, is visiting South Korea.

The measures - aimed at disrupting North Korean shipping companies and vessels - will heighten pressure on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, a United States treasury department statement, said on Friday.

Ivanka Trump said the United States is committed to putting "maximum pressure" against the North Korean regime. Expectations were high that the US would go beyond its incremental approach toward pressuring the North Korean regime.

Since Trump took office, USA officials have given mixed messages on the idea of talking with the North, at times suggesting Washington is open to talks without preconditions and at other moments insisting Pyongyang must first commit to giving up its nuclear program.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence was set to meet with North Korean delegates to the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Games earlier this month, but the North Koreans pulled out at the last minute, according to Washington. "This action targets the deceptive shipping practices that have enabled the Kim regime to fund its unsafe weapons programs".

China has reacted with anger to new U.S. sanctions aimed at increasing pressure on nuclear-equipped North Korea, saying the unilateral targeting of Chinese firms and people risked harming co-operation on the problem.

2.4 inches snow fell Thursday; 4-8 coming Saturday
However, the Weather Service cautioned that there remains some uncertainty in the exact location and timing of the heaviest snow. Saturday: Increasing clouds, 30% chance of light snow or mixed snow and rain south of Wausau during the late afternoon.

"After discussions with the (Republic of Korea) defense and foreign ministers, it is clear to see North Korea's commitment to their nuclear program and their continued aggression through the execution of ballistic missile tests", Inhofe said in a statement.
