Netanyahu to Polish PM: Holocaust comment unacceptable

Israel rebukes Poland PM for Holocaust remark

In a sharp rebuke, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the comments "outrageous" with "no basis for comparing Polish and Jewish actions during the Holocaust".

It went on to state that the prime minister's comments "should be interpreted as a honest call for open discussion of crimes committed against Jews during the Holocaust". Others cooperated for money and improved living conditions, from opportunism, fear and, finally, to protect themselves and their families.

Earlier in the day, Morawiecki spokeswoman Joanna Kopcinska said the prime minister's response to the journalist's question was "by no means intended to deny the Holocaust".

Israeli historians say it's part of an ongoing campaign to blur the lines between the murderers and the victims of the Holocaust. However, the spokeswoman for Morawiecki's ruling Law & Justice party said in a separate Twitter post that Morawiecki "said the truth that is hard to accept by the Israeli side" and there's no need to apologize for the truth.

Israeli MPs shared Netanyahu's resentment, calling the head of the Polish government "a run-of-the-mill Holocaust denier", who professes "antisemitism of the oldest kind".

Boko Haram Kills 15 In Borno
The National Emergency Management Emergency (NEMA) zonal coordinator, Bashir Garza, put the death toll at 17 and 51 injured. He said the injured have been evacuated and rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for treatment.

During the Munich Security Conference, Mr Morawiecki defended a law which would see jail terms handed down for people who suggested the country was complicit in the Nazi genocides from 1941 to 1945.

At the Polish embassy in Tel Aviv on Sunday, swastikas and anti-Polish profanities were found drawn in marker pen on a gate and bulletin board.

Critics of Poland's new law say it goes too far.

The prime minister's "remarks were not aimed at denying the Holocaust or hiding its real perpetrators", Czaputowicz told private broadcaster Polsat News on Monday.

Israel has been furious about the new legislation, and there are plans to expand Israel's existing Holocaust denial laws.

Austrian Snowboarder Breaks Neck in Crash at 2018 Olympics
Austrian snowboard Markus Schairer crash-landed during a quarterfinals run on Thursday, leaving him with a broken neck. Descending from his jump, the front of Schairer's board begins to point towards the sky as his back goes horizontal.

The Polish law would make it illegal to relate the story, he said.

"My heart has been broken for the last two weeks", Michael Schudrich, Poland's chief rabbi, told private Radio Zet on Monday.

The majority of the Jews murdered across the continent resided in pre-war Poland, and the Nazi death camps operated in occupied Poland included Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec and Sobibor.

Kaminski himself drew fire from Jewish groups in 2001 when he said that Poland should not apologize for the Jedwabne pogrom, in which Poles killed hundreds of their Jewish neighbors on July 10, 1941.

Thousands of Poles are believed to have collaborated with the Nazis, resulting ion the death of many thousands of victims, according to Efraim Zuroff, Eastern Europe director for the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Holocaust scholars estimate that Poles might have either killed or helped Germans kill as many as 200,000 Jews.
