High doses of cellphone radiation linked to some cancers in rats

Male animals, but not females, had a higher rate of malignant schwannomas - arising in nerves in the heart - compared with animals not exposed to cell phone radiofrequency radiation. "The reports don't go much further than what we have reported earlier".

Researchers at the National Toxicology Program found that there was "some evidence of carcinogenic activity" from cellphone radiation in male rats.

Over the course of the last two years, researchers at the National Toxicology Program (NTP) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have been exposing rats and mice to varying levels of cell phone radio frequency radiation. In 2010, the Federal Communications Commission came under fire after it dropped a long-standing recommendation that consumers buy phones with lower radiation emissions.

The Newest: Italian gunman had far-right extremist ties
Magistrates say witnesses saw the Nigerian suspect carrying the suitcases that were later found to contain the teenager's body. Italian police have arrested a gunman suspected of a carrying out a drive-by shooting spree that targeted African immigrants.

Shuren said that the topic of research had been nominated in 1999, at a time where there was a lack of epidemiological and long-term animal studies exploring the effect of RF energy from cellular phones. The only frequencies used were 2G or 3G.

A USA government study unveiled this past week revealed that male rats showed increased signs of a particular kind of heart tumour after being exposed to exponential amounts of cellphone radiation.

In response to the NTP studies being released Friday, the FDA reaffirmed that stance while stating that it was eager to participate in the peer review process of the reports, which will begin later this March. Bucher said that humans experience this only when a cellphone receiving a weak signal uses more energy trying to find a stronger connection.

Operation Olive Branch: 7 Turkish soldiers martyred
Seven Turkish soldiers were martyred on Saturday during Operation Olive Branch, according to a Turkish General Staff statement. Another soldier, the Turkish military said, was killed in clashes with the Kurdish forces.

"This is the most authoritative study published that connects cancer with mobile phone radiation - it should raise alarms for policymakers and awareness for all people", Olga Naidenko, a senior science advisor for the advocacy organisation Environmental Working Group, said in a statement.

Though they are not common in human hearts, cardiac tissue is a good target for cell phone radiation, Dr Bucher says.

"We don't have any idea really", Bucher said. The lowest level of radiation they were exposed to was about the maximum level cellphones are permitted to emit, and the rodents were exposed to nine hours of radiofrequency radiation every day for two years, which Bucher made clear was much more than a regular cellphone user is going to be exposed to. On the other hand, he added, the babies did grow to normal size. "These studies should have been done before more than 90 percent of Americans, including children, started using this technology day in and day out". He noted some additional unusual findings in the study, and said his team is continuing to assess them, but emphasized that based on all available scientific information the agency does not believe there are adverse health effects in humans caused by cellphone radiation.

Trump's State Of The Union Wasn't The Most Watched In History
Correction: February 1, 2018 12:00 am - A previous version of this story misspelled Nielsen as Nielson in some references. Meanwhile, President Obama's first SOTU logged just over 48 million viewers in 2010 while almost 52M watched George W.

The findings don't suggest that US regulations on cellphone radiation need to be tightened, said Jeffrey Shuren, director of FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health in Silver Spring, Maryland, in a statement. But on Friday, two government studies suggest that if indeed there is any risk, it would be small. The new studies, when combined with previous research, have "given us the confidence that the current safety limits for cellphone radiation remain acceptable for protecting the public health".
