The victor of a $560 million (£400m) Powerball jackpot last month is suing state lottery officials in a bid to protect her anonymity. The lottery clearly doesn't want to get caught up in the court system over this and the woman doesn't want to have her name outed to maniacs who would stalk her. So yeah, the unidentified woman is not about this life, so she has asked a judge to not only let her keep her massive winnings, but to let her remain anonymous. But the woman already signed her name to the winning ticket and can not alter her signature and hide her identity without voiding the ticket.

Now only six states allow lottery winners to maintain their anonymity - Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and SC.

"She is a longtime resident of New Hampshire and is an engaged community member", the woman's attorney, Steven Gordon, wrote in the court documents.

Scores of civilians killed as airstrikes pound Syria's rebel-held Eastern Ghouta
An offensive by Ankara to rout US -backed Syrian Kurdish fighters from the northern enclave of Afrin is now in its third week. Attacks on Turkish military forces in the northwest of Syria has left one soldier killed and five others injured on Monday.

New Hampshire's open-record laws mandate that the victor disclose her name, town and the amount won.

"The disclosure of Ms. Doe's identifying information would constitute an invasion of privacy because the limited public interest in disclosure is far outweighed by Ms. Doe's interest in remaining anonymous", the lawsuit states. "I became more concerned about how I was being judged and perceived, not realizing I was the one doing the judging in the first place". She says she was just following the instructions on the ticket and on the state lottery website. In the past, other winners who wanted to remain anonymous would create trusts, and their trustees would claim the money for them.

New Hampshire is one of a handful of states that allows trusts to anonymously claim lottery prizes.

"The New Hampshire Lottery understands that winning a $560 million Powerball jackpot is a life-changing occurrence", said Executive Director Charlie McIntyre. Also, as the WaPo article goes on to point out, there have actually been a significant number of jackpot winners who have been murdered in attempts to get their money. The New Hampshire Lottery to CNN Money Jane Doe purchased the lucky ticket on January 6 from Reeds Ferry Market in Merrimack. Lottery officials confirmed the ticket is a victor.

A hearing has been set for February 21 to address the woman's request.

But now that the woman has already signed the ticket, it appears to be too late to have a trust collect the winnings.
