'I, Tonya' shows another side of ice skating history

Dan Shaughnessy asked Nancy Kerrigan about 'I, Tonya.' Here's what she said.

However, she doesn't want to talk to reporters about her past. She sewed her own, dealt with mom and was scored poorly - or so this story goes.

Though the Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya, has received critical acclaim and a number of awards nominations, Olympic ice skater and Harding's former competitor Nancy Kerrigan has neither seen the movie nor does she have any desire to do so. Harding fever has gripped the nation again, from Margot Robbie's "I, Tonya" to an extensive New York Times' feature, the notorious Portland-area figure skater is seemingly inescapable at the moment. Working off a reality that is already pretty out there, I, Tonya presents a dramatic mock-u-mentary retelling of these real-life events, which leave eyebrows raised from start to finish.

You may have decided that Harding was guilty of many things a long time ago, but "I, Tonya" does a handsome job of showing that her innocence was lost long before those Albertville Olympics.

Morgan was quizzing the retired figure skater about her involvement on the attack when she threatened to end the interview.

"I don't think that there was more than one day a week, sometimes, that I didn't get beaten", said Harding of growing up with her mother.

Trump Administration Will Let States Require People To Work For Medicaid

This week, Harding was dumped by her publicist/agent Michael A. Rosenberg for ordering that journalists who ask about the infamous incident with Kerrigan be fined $25,000.

LaVona Golden (Allison Janney) at work in "I, Tonya".

What do you think of Nancy Kerrigan's initial response?

Speaking to ABC, Golden admits to spanking her daughter with a hairbrush once at a competition but says it was an isolated incident.

"You did know what they were planning didn't you?" Like, that's my role in this whole thing. I am sad as I write this; but at the same time I'm happy that I had such an adventure with the movie and with recreating a new positive image for (Harding) in the public eye.

The royal fiancée's laid-back California style was on display during her outing to a radio station in London with Prince Harry . According to People , he also jokingly added, "It could be a sensitive subject".

Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan avoid each other during a training session February 17, 1994 in Hamar, Norway. "Spanked? Yes, spanked. Absolutely positively, you got to show them right from wrong". Upon confronting a judge about her skating scores, Harding is told that she just doesn't have the wholesome family image the association is looking for. Janney, whose performance as LeVona is garnering deserved best supporting actress buzz, portrays the elder Harding with borderline cartoonish iciness as she berates her daughter's performances, calls her names, and tosses chairs around.

What we have in "I, Tonya" is not a standard sports movie but the crazed crossbreed child of "Slap Shot" and "Goodfellas".

"It popped in my head two or three days after we got back (that Gillooly and Eckardt were involved)", Harding said in part of the interview that didn't run until the two-hour special on Thursday night (Friday NZT).

So she watched it a few times, and the shock wore off, and there from the comfort of her living room, sitting beside the only romantic partner she has ever felt loved by and safe with, she watched what had happened in her life and realized that she never really stood a chance.
